SUCCESS TIP #7
Family! What is going on?
My name is Walter Virgil and this is ESS Success.
This is a really awesome thread that I really enjoy doing. It gives me an opportunity to be able to share some tips that’ll really be able to help you for those of you that are on this journey of seeking out the right job opportunity for you. I really wanna do my best in equipping you guys so that you can be adamant and ready for this next opportunity.
In the last video that I posted, I dealt with appropriate, professional e-mail addresses and what they ought not look like, right? They need to be reflective of your name because we want to show you in the best possible light. We want you to stand out for all the right reasons. And so I told you that I was going to come back with one dealing with voice messages and so that’s exactly what I want to do.
This is what an appropriate voice message ought to sound like. Let’s just say that I applied for Hardy Construction. I called, I wanted to talk to somebody because I submitted an application and I wanted just to kind of follow up and nobody picked up, right? So:
“You’ve just reached Hardy Construction. Nobody’s here to answer your phone call right now, but if you leave your name, number, and a detailed message, I’ll be sure to get back to you in a timely manner.”
“Hello, how’s everything? My name is Walter Virgil. I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to get in contact with anybody, but I recently submitted an application -- I believe it was Wednesday. I came into the office around 12, I spoke to a young lady by the name of Wendy. I’m just kinda checking up, making sure everything is cool, and all the information I submitted was fine. But, in the meantime, I’d appreciate if I could get a phone call back from somebody. My number is 555-2424. I really look forward to hearing back from somebody, but thank you so much. I pray you guys enjoy the rest of your day. Goodbye.”
That was aight!
You know, it shows that you’re engaged, it shows that you’re following up, it shows that you’re connecting with people that are there in the office, you’re retaining names. That means a lot. You’re trying to build a rapport. You’re not too pushy, but you are showing that you’re adamant about wanting to get connected and you really want to follow through, and you left them a clear message with your number at the end of it.
And I know I only gave the number once, but a lot of times, I’ll shoot my number out there two times just to make sure that they got it because sometimes when people listen back to messages, they get a little chopped up. You’ve heard them before. So, you know, release grace to people’s software, okay?
So now you’ve heard what it should sound like, but now let’s do what it should not sound like. Alright, you ready? Ready? Okay, cool:
“You’ve just reached Hardy Construction. No one’s here to answer your phone call right now, but if you leave your name, number, and a brief message, somebody’ll be sure to get back to you in a timely manner. Thank you very much.”
“Hello? Hello? This -- oh, oh. Hold on. Um, yeah -- no, no. No, no. Be quiet, man, I’m not talking -- uh, yeah. Hey, what’s going on, Hardy’s? Uh, my name’s Walter. I came up there in the office, you know, and there was some girl up there, she told me I had to put in an application, so I put it in, and um, I ain’t hear nothing back from nobody yet. So… What’s up? I mean, um -- yo, somebody need to call me and let me know, ‘cause if not, there’s some other places I could be applying to. I don’t got time to be waiting for all of this. Alright, yeah, I gotta go. Bye.”
And you would think that I’m making that up, but I’ve actually heard some silly stuff like that! You don’t want to be that guy because the thing is, it begins to communicate a whole bunch of different things: just really pushy, aggressive, just not warm, and not the type of person that I may want to have in the midst of my organization.
I pray that you can begin to kind of grab a little something from that, and you guys can begin to apply it. I really believe that you can really make the right impression. Never forget this:
So making the right impression is everything!
Even if you’re a little anxious, you’re a little pent-up, calm that stuff down! You have to seem like somebody that’s under control, that has self-control, because nobody wants to bring a hot-head into their situation.
That was a little something. I hope you enjoyed it. If you enjoy our content, please do me a favor: share it, okay? Put somebody else onto it.
My name is Walter Virgil and this is ESS Success. On behalf of Extra Solution Staffing, we just wanna thank you for your time, alright?
I’m going to get out of here. Stay tuned, we’ve got more to come.
Peace.
